On July 17, 2019, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) released guidance (Notice 2019-45) which expands the list of preventive care benefits that health savings account (HSA) insurance products may provide. This expanded list of services benefits patients with asthma because the IRS notice specifically expands preventive care for inhaled corticosteroids and peak flow meters for individuals diagnosed with asthma.
If you think this new guidance may apply to you check with your health plan to see if your out- of- pocket expenses for these items have changed.
